The Holy Quran is a message sent by Allah through the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to guide mankind. However, how audiences encounter this message can lead them astray. Accordingly, the purpose of this article is to examine and analyze guidance and misguidance in the text of the Holy Quran from the perspective of the sociology of communication. For this purpose, the text of the Holy Quran has been examined using archival research method. The findings show that the assumptions of the process and semiotic schools of communication are not appropriate and sufficient for examining and analyzing guidance and misguidance in the text of the Holy Quran, and only the Islamic school of communication has the necessary and appropriate sufficiency in this regard. The assumptions of the latter school show that all four components—the sender of the message, the message itself, the addressee of the message, and finally, the contextual meaning that the addressee attributes to this message when confronted with the text of the Holy Quran—are important and effective in the mechanism of guidance or falling into misguidance.
