Sociological Reflections on the Funeral of Martyr Raisi

Abstract

the history of human civilization, individuals with their special and unique roles have made history and set civilizational turning points. Martyr Raisi is one of these individuals who, inspired by the Imams of the Islamic Revolution, established a new reading in the field of jihadi management. The funeral of the martyred president and his companions and the presence of a million-strong and impressive crowd of people and leaders and representatives of different countries of the world in the cities of Tabriz, Qom, Tehran, Birjand and Mashhad in the wake of this prominent and international figure were among the unique social events after the death of the late Imam and Martyr Soleimani. An event that the Supreme Leader mentioned under the title of the Iranian nation's vitality, and this event aroused the astonishment of many domestic and foreign experts, especially the Western media. Therefore, his magnificent funeral promised the necessary space to create a resurrection and a new chapter and analysis from a sociological perspective. Accordingly, the aim of the present study is to discover and analyze the semantic implications of the participants in this ceremony. The present research method is exploratory and qualitative approach based on content analysis. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews and coding was used for data analysis. The theoretical sampling method and its end criterion was saturation of themes extracted from the interviews and was carried out with the participation of 21 people who attended this ceremony. Using the content analysis strategy, the research achieved 115 basic themes, 20 organizing themes, and 5 comprehensive themes. The research findings showed that the funeral of service martyrs was formed in a context of social and political interactions in the country, which leads to the promotion of social capital, the reproduction of social solidarity, and the continuation of revolutionary and jihadi management.
